Willard North has been so busy the past few weeks! We had a wonderful Red Ribbon Week! We had Crazy Hair Day, Wear Your Oldest WOW Shirt Day, Pajama Day and Twin Day! The kids had so much fun! Thanks to Kenda Chappell and the drama students from the high school for putting on an excellent show!

I would also like to take this time and thank our wonderful PTO! They provide us with so many things! Last week during our conferences, a wonderful meal was served to our staff that was prepared by our PTO families. As a school we are thankful and blessed!

Tonight our Read-A-Thon Reward Party will take place! Louie from the Springfield Cardinals will be here, we will have inflatable jump houses, dinner, limousine rides, and I will be dealt my fate with “Deal or No Deal”. The Read-A-Thon was a huge success and the PTO profited $5,800.00 ! Over 60,000 minutes were read by Willard North students!

Have a wonderful week!

It is hard to believe that Sunday morning will mark the first day of fall. The weeks we have been in school have literally “clipped” along. This week, we handed out mid-term grades to students, did health screenings on kindergarten, first and third graders, and completed a significant amount of reading testing on our students. I also want to congratulate the 3rd grade students and their families for a job well done on their community projects! The projects were amazing! It never ceases to amaze me how a project can be assigned with the same criteria and the results be so different and unique! I know the students were very proud of these! Don’t forget Homecoming tonight! If you have not been to a game and caught the Willard spirit, you should!! The boys are playing some great football and the band is awesome! Your Friday is only lacking this excitement! GO TIGERS!

While our time is limited in this school year, the excitement cannot be contained! Everyone is read for the end! It has been a great year that had many challenges! We have all changed due to the circumstances we have endured, but we did with the TIGER PRIDE we are famous for!

I would like to celebrate our Teacher of the Year, Teresa Palmer. If you have ever traveled the halls of Willard North, you know the type of art teacher she is. Mrs Palmer has the distinct gift of making everyone an artist. Her projects are wonderful and the students love her class. My personal favorite is the pottery unit each class gets to do. I must say, I have a pretty good dinosaur displayed in my office that was constructed last year. Mrs. Palmer can bring out the inner artist in the principal! It has been our joy at Willard North to have Mrs. Palmer as our art teacher. I appreciate all the things she does and mostly her caring, humorous, and faithful attitude. Congratulations on being our Teacher of the Year!

Our Employee of the Year is Mary Butler. Mary B, as she is fondly called at our school, has received this award many times. The reasons are very clear. Mary B is a hard working, dedicated employee who goes the extra mile to make sure everything is right. She is always at work, she can do anything, and the extra touches she provides to everyone are noticed and appreciated. Mary loves everyone and the feeling is mutual. Students flock to her like sheep. She encourages everyone with her smile and positive attitude. We are blessed to have Mary B work at Willard North. Don’t get any ideas either! She is ours and you can’t have her!

Have a wonderful week!

Wow! It’s hard to believe that two weeks have gone by since our last post to the Pride! Let me tell you, we have a lot to report!

Of course we are finished with all MAP testing for this year! The kids did an AWESOME job during the tests! We are proud of the fact that we are the only school in Missouri that still has the MMAT! Actually it stands for Map Motivation and Teamwork! Our team did a great job of encouraging all that were participating in the tests!

Then we had Secretary’s Day! We appreciate Mary Crighton and Nikki Stokes so much! They are truly the heart of our school.

Wednesday, April 25th, Willard North was proud to sponsor our 3rd Annual Locks of Love Event! This year, 34 people cut their hair for the cause! It was a wonderful event. Thanks to our local hairstylists Angela, Jennifer, Lori, Toni and Terri for coming and cutting ponytails and giving free haircuts! Thanks to Carolyn, Stephanie and Robin for also helping cut ponytails! Thanks also goes to Carah Patterson ,Stephanie Yates, Angela Stevens and Laura Hurd for the makeovers! Lifetouch photography took pictures of the girls which are just awesome! Thanks to all for making this a community event!

Friday, April 27th our 3/4th grade Honor Choir sang the National Anthem at the Springfield Cardinals Game. They also held a wonderful concert on May 1oth at Willard North.

Kindergarten Screening was held April 30th and May 1st. We are so excited about next years class!

On May 1st, our kindergarten class held their spring concert on the big stage at Willard High School! They did an amazing job! The facilities were awesome! Thanks to Mr. Tuck, Mrs. Chappell, and Willard High School for letting us use it! Also thanks to John K and Matt M for the lights and sound!

On May 5th we held our annual Track and Field Day! The events went great! The threat of weather stayed away and we enjoyed a fantastic day. Thanks to Coach Bills for putting on a terrific activity!

This afternoon, First Grade will host their Mother’s Day Tea. The students are very excited to show their Mother’s their talent and the gifts they have made. Bring on the kleenex! It’s bound to choke you up!

Happy Mother’s Day to all our Mom’s! You do so much for us! Enjoy your special day with your family!
