GREAT THINGS HAPPENING AT WILLARD MIDDLE SCHOOL!!
BRIDGE BREAKING IN INDUSTRIAL TECH CLASS
MS TEACHERS WORKING ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN READING
Note to the staff from our new Assistant Principal, Tom Merriott: I wanted to let you know that many of you have exceptional things going on in your classes, and I would love to see them if possible. Just this week I have seen a snake eat a live mouse, a model bridge hold a bucket full of weights before collapsing, some fantastic acting in the black box, and cookies being iced to simulate the phases of the moon.
THANK YOU TEACHERS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS!!!!

This week started the beginning of the Middle School sports events. We kicked off the fall sport season with a pep assembly. It was lead by the O7-08 Student Council President. Each student participating in football, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading was recognized. Students that participated the Greene County Library summer reading program were acknowledged along with the students that earned the highest score on the MAP test.
Events coming up: Wednesday, September 19 students will be given grade cards and newsletters to take home.

The first two days went very smooth. This is thanks to all the wonderful staff and students we have in this school district.
We were lucky to have 6 speakers on Friday to talk with students about different cultures. South America, Chile, Japan, Asia, Africa, and Australia were the topics discussed. The students did a great job listening and participating in the multicultural day.
It is GREAT to be back!! Amy Sims, Willard Middle School Principal

The counselors office is focused on MAP and scheduling for the next several weeks. This is quite the task and they do an outstanding job!
After looking at Mrs. Jennings recent experiment, you may want to carry hand sanitizer with you. Her students went around the school swabbing different surfaces to collect germs. They grew out the cultures, and it was very shocking to everyone. The kids loved this experiment – WAY TO GO Jennings! You never know what migh be lurking on the door handle!

Multi Cultural Day was a huge success at WMS. Although, Ms. Olson would not allow red-neck cowboys as a multi culture. Kids had fun reading, writing and speaking foreign languages, viewing customs of other cultures, and sampling food of the different cultures. A huge attraction was seeing what your name looked like written and spoken in a different language.
Hee Haw Hayride is coming our way March 1-2, 2007. Come see this musical directed by Mrs. French and Dr. Summers.
Thanks also for the helping hands and support of our food and clothing pantry.
Question: Mr. Twitchel’s birthday was February 22nd. How old was he? Free prize for the right answer.

Besides being cold the Middle School has been hard at work with boning up for MAP test.
Multi- Cultural Day is February 21st. Ask your student what his or her participation might be. They tell me Cowboy Culture is not one of the cultures to be covered. Several countries and cultures will be presented by people of those countries.
Remember the Spelling Bee on February 20th. We have some great spellers at the Middle School. By the way the Administration will only supervise and not participate in the Spelling Bee unless we can use spell check on our computers!
Our school musical is coming on March 1st. Please add it to your calendars.

Parents came to volunteer day and really helped out. Not only did they come in the day time but was here after school also. Those who put in a full day at work and help with chores that had piled up here we thank you and the students thank you.
The Dance is Friday night. We need good behavior and no ICE!
As things get back to normal at the Middle School we plan to hit the MAP review hard. Please talk to your student about doing his/her best.

The Middle School is off to an icy start. Attendance is picking up after a recent flu episode. Maybe some of the cold weather will freeze the flu bug. Remember the Valentines Dance February the 5th. We hope this one will not be iced over. Navy team is collecting food for the Willard Food Pantry. Give what you can. The counseling center is doing career exploration with the 8th grade. Parent Volunteer Day is February 8th from 8am to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm. Dennis Twitchel, Assistant Principal
